You can either set the temperature hold on the Thermostat or on the Google Home Application. The below settings apply to Google Nest Thermostat 3rd Gen and Nest E Thermostat as well.

Method 1: Hold Temperature on Nest Thermostat using Google Home App

  • Make Sure that there is no previous settings available on your Thermostat if present then reset your Nest Thermostat before setting hold temperature.
  • Make sure you’re in the Home app.
  • Choose a thermostat on the home screen.
  • First, make sure your thermostat is in one of the three heating/cooling modes, or one of the three heating/cooling modes.
  • The temperature can be held by pressing the hold Temperature button to maintain the temperature.
  • Choose whether you want your thermostat to keep the current temperature or a preset.
  • If you don’t see the temperature you desire, change your thermostat’s current setting to the one you want to keep. By re-opening the hold temperature settings, the temperature you just specified will be available.
  • Set the time limit for how long you want the temperature to stay at this setting.
  • If you’re using the Eco preset, you can also select “None” to keep the temperature indefinitely until you release it. You can set your thermostat to hold the temperature for up to 24 hours if you choose.
  • To activate the temperature hold, press the Start key.

Method 2: Using the Settings On Nest Thermostat to Hold the Temperature Without Using App

Another method that you can use to hold temperature on your Nest Thermostat is using the Thermostat settings itself.

  • Select “Hold” from the menu on your thermostat. It will resemble a clock symbol in appearance.
  • Make sure you select either Eco Mode or Current Temp if you want to keep the temperature at the same level for an extended period of time.
  • Make sure you select either “None” or “24 Hours” in the Eco mode, or how many hours you would like your thermostat to remain at its current setting (up to 24 hours).
  • The changed settings can be activated by clicking Confirm. This means that if you want to modify the temperature you’ll have to end the hold first.

  • Make sure you’re in the Home app.
  • Choose a thermostat on the home screen.
  • Heat, Cool, or Heat • Cool from these three mode should anyone of them needs to be selected for your thermostat’s temperature hold.
  • The temperature can be held by pressing the hold temperature button. Tap on it.
  • Tap and hold the end Button on the Home App.
  • In order to initiate a new temperature hold and modify the current hold settings, follow the actions outlined in this section.

Using Nest Thermostat Settings

If you want to remove the hold temperature setting from your Nest Thermostat then you can follow the below steps on your Nest Thermostat and this should remove the Hold Temperature.

  • Select Hold Hold temperature in the Menu view.
  • Stop the temperature hold by pressing the Stop button.

The above settings should stop your Thermostat to hold any temperature that you have set initially and you can now either change the hold temperature settings using the above methods or keep it removed completely.

How To Set Heat on Nest Thermostat

If you want to set Heat on your Nest Thermostat then you can follow the below steps that allow moving from Cooling to Heating settings. You can either set it on your Nest application or on the Nest Thermostat as well.

Using Nest Application on Your Phone

  • Go to your Nest Application and open it on your Smartphone.
  • Select your Nest Thermostat whose settings you want to change.
  • In left corner of the app tap on the Cool Button. (If it is showing Heat then it is already set to heat and no further changes are required.).
  • You will see a pop-up with various options such as Heat, Cool, Heat.Cool, and OFF.
  • On the pop-up make sure that you have selected the Heat Option and A Tick is Marked in front on it.
  • Once set the thermostat temperature can change automatically to higher temperature.
  • You can change the temperature settings to maintain the heat temperature till particular temperature of the room.

  • Tap on your Nest Thermostat to get the Main Menu on the Screen.
  • Using the scrolling scroll down to Thermostat and Push that option to select.
  • You will see the options as Heat, Cool, Heat-Cool, and OFF and you make sure you select Heat.
  • Once you have selected the Heat push the thermostat to ensure that heat settings are applied.
